Vic Juris, a jazz guitar player of astounding abilities perhaps most widely known for their 23-year tenure in David Liebman’s musical organization, passed away Tuesday early morning, relating to a message on his Facebook page related to his buddy and other guitar player Dave Stryker.

This new Jersey-based Juris, was 66. He had been identified 6 months ago, after unexplainable tiredness on their gigs, with metastatic liver cancer tumors. A GoFundMe campaign established right after raised more than $110,000 from fans and buddies to simply help protect their therapy and living expenses.

Juris played in Ottawa in 2008 with Liebman’s team in the now-shuttered Cafe Paradiso on Bank Street, and therefore look resulted in further gigs and concerts right here with Ottawa musicians John Geggie and Roddy Ellias.

During 2009, before their National Arts Centre Fourth phase concert Juris, Geggie stated: “Lots of men and women know about guitarists like John Scofield, John Abercrombie, Pat Metheny, Bill Frisell and Kurt Rosenwinkel,” Geggie says.
